This fall exhibit combines work from the Jurgen Book drawing series and

mixed media paintings (oil pastel, Joss paper, and acrylic medium) borne out of creation stories from around the world. These stories of how humankind and other creatures came into existence are found in folklore of all cultures, and

I have used them as a starting point for my images.

Seeing these paintings again refueled my imagination and the result is a series of seven paintings based on genesis tales from around the globe. I use them as the jumping off place for my paintings, but the work diverges and has a life of its own.

These seven images are all created using acrylic paint as a base, with oil pastel and Chinese Joss paper layered with acrylic matte medium. They are mounted on spruce plywood with many layers of acrylic paint and a UV-protected

polymer varnish. Images measure 15 1/4” square, mounted size 18” square.

All paintings are $435 each, including tax. (Shipping charges are extra).

10% of net sales will be donated to a non-profit organization of your choosing: Hospice of Humboldt (, Friends of the Dunes (, or to the Betty Chinn Homeless Fund (
